Following up from my last post about extending zones, I was able to get an additional ‘video zone’ out of my Denon 2808ci AVR.
To recap, zone 3 which is a left/right audio zone I sent to a simple speaker selector. The speaker selector works by taking the left/right audio input and then allowing for six addition audio zone outputs.
Next, I took advantage of the unused monitor outs. I purchased on MonoPrice.com a 50 foot 3-pin component video cable. This cable goes from the Denon’s component monitor out and goes up to my 50 inch Samsung plasma television which is in my living room upstairs. Audio is sent up to my living room through the speaker selector.
In this way, I now have zone 2 video and audio going to my exercise room and in addition, video and audio going upstairs to my living room through the speaker selector pushing audio through zone 3 and the video through component monitor out.
SWEET!
A few tips:
I use the Harmony 890 remote to control the the Denon, DVD, and other input devices which are located downstairs in the media closet from upstairs in my living room
For your input sources that feed into your Denon 2808ci, if you use an HDMI cable, you will also need to also run a component or composite cable in order to send video out to the component monitor out. Both my Denon 2808ci and Denon 1609 (and probably most AVRs) will not convert a digital HDMI signal into an analog component signal.
This method will not give you an independent video zone since the same video signal is sent to all monitor outs. In my setup, the HDMI monitor out goes to my home theater room and the component video out goes to my living room. So this method gives me the ability to access media content located on my DVR and 400 disk DVD changer but it is a shared video zone.
